Nashville SC vs. SC United FC final score: Set piece goals keep NSC's undefeated start alive

On a night when SC United denied Nashville SC's preferred channels of attack, the Boys In Gold hammered home a pair of set piece goals in the second half to keep the perfect start (4-0-0) to their debut PDL season alive. The result keeps NSC's U23 side perched atop the South Atlantic Division, one game ahead of the 3-1 Charlotte Eagles.

The Bantams were happy to concede possession and bunker down in the 18-yard box for most of the night, making things difficult for Nashville's attack, which stands at second in the league with 16 goals after the weekend. Until Nashville's pair of set-piece goals, the only place NSC's attackers could find room to work was in the wings, often from diagonal balls sent in from the back line. But the crosses those passages yielded rarely threatened.

Attacking midfielder Martim Galvao assisted both goals, serving the first in from a corner on the left side of the pitch and the second from a free kick approximately 30 yards out. It was center back Kyle McLagan getting on the end of both deliveries – the first in the 69th minute (nice), and the dagger in the 80th minute – heading each into the back of the net.
This was Nashville's least attractive win in their undefeated start, but considering they played two matches in three days, the PDL rookies will happily take the result.

Vanderbilt Stadium has been the setting of Nashville's first four matches, but now they'll have to navigate five consecutive road games. The good news is that each match will be against a foe NSC have already vanquished this year, the next being on June 3 at Peachtree City MOBA, the recipients of a 6-1 beatdown in the season opener.

NSC returns to Nashville on June 23, when it will take up residence in the Vanderbilt soccer stadium, which will serve as the team's home pitch for the remainder of the season. This will come much to the relief of spectators who've spent the first four games of the season being tremendously confused by where the field begins and ends on the Commodores' football field.

 On vacation! Currently, this is a one-man passion project, so when I'm off the grid to take a rare mental health break, the site goes dark. But I'd very much like that to change, and that means adding contributors.

Pretty much the only requirement I'm looking for is an enthusiasm for watching and creating content about local soccer. You don't have to be an expert on the PDL or the USL; writing about these leagues has been and continues to be a learning process for me, and I'm betting it is for a lot of other local soccer lovers, too.

Whether you're passionate about the U23 team, the city's MLS bid, Inter Nashville, youth and high school leagues, or even just your dang rec league, I want Music City Soccer to be a place where local soccer fans can come to express their enthusiasm for the city's growing soccer culture. The name of the site was kept broadly focused on the city rather than any one specific club for a reason, though the heavy hitters will obviously attract most of the interest.
