Nashville SC U23 steal a point in 2-2 draw at Tormenta FC

Nashville SC U23 scored a pair of equalizers after falling behind twice on Saturday night to secure a 2-2 draw at South Georgia Tormenta FC. The point keeps Nashville atop the table in the PDL's South Atlantic Division, one point ahead of Charlotte Eagles.

Nashville were overrun in a first half dominated by Tormenta but that only yielded one goal for the home team. But for a series of excellent saves from NSC keeper William Pyle, Tormenta could have lead by three goals at the half. Tormenta got the breakthrough on an thunderous strike Jamie Merriam strike from outside the 18.
At the halfway mark, Kyle Roelke subbed on midfielder Martim Galvao and winger Logan Paynter, and that change shifted the run of play in Nashville's favor for most of the second half. NSC got its first equalizer in the 62nd minute when a Tormenta was whistled for shoving down a Nashville attacker in the penalty area. Blake Wilson was called on to take the kick, and he slotted the ball into the right side of the net as the Tormenta keeper dove to the right.

Tormenta went back in front in the 80th minute when Alex Hasenstab found the back of the net as Nashville struggled to clear the ball following a corner kick. Again, Pyle made some excellent saves at close range, but there was a live ball in Nashville's penalty area for so long that the goal was inevitable.

Nashville drew level again two minutes later when Martim Galvao lobbed a free kick into the penalty area and, well, this happened.
Nashville had one more opportunity to claim all three points when a Martim Galvao pass put Blake Wilson through on goal, but Wilson's touch let him down and the ball was collected by the Tormenta goalkeeper.

Nashville now head back to the Volunteer State for the final leg of their five-game PDL road trip, a June 13 match against Tri-Cities Otters.  If the Boys In Gold can get a result against the Otters, this grueling stretch of away games – currently featuring a win, two draws, and a loss – will have to be considered a success.
